Plates of heavy steel and iron pulled tight around your chest 

You will take their words and smelt them until they are double edged and gleaming

Solid and sharp

A weapon in your fist

Steady

But you will not charge

No

You will bury that protection deep until it's nearly bursting from the gaps between your ribs

And you will walk on

Walk until the sneer of your mouth falls soft and curves 

And you can feel the fire in their eyes settle upon your hair like a crown

Walk until they drop to their knees before you

Wide eyed and trembling

Walk until they regret every time they opened their mouth to you

You are a knight

A warrior

A queen

You are not a casualty of their vicious cruelty 

You will wear their words like a second skin

And you will wear it so well
